Biography

Roman is a skilled advocate with two decades of legal experience.

Roman was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in 2002 by the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. In 2017 he commenced in Queensland  as a solicitor and joined the Queensland bar in 2022.

He has appeared in proceedings before the Supreme Court, District Court, Family Court, Magistrates Court, and in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Roman has led trials, sentences, appeals, judicial reviews, and administrative review hearings.

Prior to joining the private bar, Roman was a Senior Federal Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. He had carriage of prosecutions against individuals and corporations for crimes involving complex fraud, taxation, finance and investment, government revenue, director’s duties, bankruptcy, money laundering, and foreign bribery. He also handled Commonwealth prosecutions for drug importation, child abuse material and the misuse of carriage services.

Previously, Roman spent 10 years with the Northern Territory Director of Public Prosecutions, most of this time was as a Crown Prosecutor. In that role he appeared before the Supreme Court in jury trials and sentences on a range of criminal matters involving homicide, fraud, sex offending, serious violence and drug trafficking.

Roman was a Principal Lawyer with the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission advising on allegations of corrupt conduct and disciplinary reviews. He also appeared as counsel assisting in coercive hearings.

Roman held a senior legal role with the Brisbane City Council. He appeared in proceedings relating to planning and environment, food safety, biosecurity, and animal management. He also appeared for the Council in hearings before the QCAT, mediations and administrative applications.

Roman commenced his legal career with Clayton Utz Lawyers in commercial and corporate law. Roman held the position of a Judge’s Associate in the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory prior to admission.
